This system has been developed using known high quality British-sourced products to provide lighting wherever it is impractical to install permanent mainswired systems.
It is an environmentally friendly, cost saving solution to provide amenity lighting at remote locations or indeed on busy traffic routes – there is no need to consider it merely for emergency or 'stop gap' lighting. The use of both photovoltaic cells (using and converting light energy to electrical energy, with no need for the sun to be visible) plus the use of wind power (low-speed effectiveness) provides ample capacity to generate light all night from the latest LED lighting technology.
Locations previously considered too far from the grid but requiring lighting can now be considered for a Solar Wind Lighting System. The wind and solar powered solution delivers free, renewable energy which is stored in a gel battery ready to provide light when darkness falls or a member of staff approaches the light. A PIR (passive infrared sensor) is fitted so that the light turns off when not needed, but there is sufficient capacity or reserve of energy to operate throughout the long winter nights. The PIR can be overridden in the event of continuous illumination being required.
There's no need to dig trenches for underground cables as the system is totally independent of the grid. By generating its own power from the wind and sun, there are no grid connection charges and no ongoing energy or standing charges. Installation is quick - typically less than a half-a-day per column - and uses simple concrete foundations.
The Cambrian Solar Wind Lighting System is already in use on a number of rail installations.
